Debbie is the Director of the Promoting Gerontological Nursing Demonstration Project. She has a particular interest in nurse sensitive approaches to evidence based practice, the application of a community of practice framework to practice development and e.practice development.

Tim joined us in September 2003 and brings an international reputation in Group Work and gerontological social work expertise. He is leading the Involving Older People Project which is designed to increase participation in internet based activities and to give voice to older people and their families related to the development of national care guidance. Projects in preparation include the application of group work in auditory rehabilitation.

Jo joined the team in January 2004, having been the inaugural Nurse Consultant in Services for Older People in Scotland. She is now playing a leading role in the Demonstration Project.

Irene Schofield, Research Fellow

Irene is the lead developer and editor in chief of the Best Practice Statements which are produced and updated on a three yearly cycle as part of the National Developing Gerontological Nursing Demonstration Project.

Dr Tom Buggy, Head of Division, School of Computing and Mathematical Science

Tom is an associate researcher and has been working with the Gerontological Nursing Team since 2001. An experienced IT professional with a particular interest in e.learning technologies and accessibility, he directs the Computing aspects of the major Demonstration Project and virtual Practice Development College. His substantive role is Divisional Manager within the Caledonian University School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences.

Mary joined us in August 2003 to pioneer knowledge transfer activities and affordable outreach education for health and social care professionals who work with older people. Mary brings a wealth of expertise from the independent care home sector. She is currently piloting e.learning modules related to developing Gerontological Practice in collaboration with a local NHS trust.

Derek has a background in nursing and education, and now specialises in informatics. He currently helps with data management and analysis within the Impact Study.

Marcus Dresh, Research Assistant

Marcus joined the team in September 2005 as a research assistant. He is currently working on an e-learning advanced carers course called Text-to-Learn. The course is designed specifically for carers working in the care home industry.

Andy Lowndes, Practice Development Fellow

Andy has a practice background in mental health nursing and is a full time Practice Development Fellow working with the virtual Practice Development College. His particular interests lie in the application of e.learning pedagogy to practice development and has recently completed the Lettol online trainers course. He chairs a Transnational Working Group on e.learning, collaborating with partners in Spain and Italy.

Susan joined the team in April 2005 as a research assistant. Currently she is involved in working with other members of the team on the Gerontological Demonstration Project and on a study examining the needs of Cardiac Rehabilitation in older people.

Marie McAloon, Lecturer-Practitioner Gerontological Nursing

Marie is a lecturer at the University and as a senior nurse focussing on practice development in the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow. She leads the BSc Specialist Nursing: Gerontological Nursing Pathway with its combination of taught and distance learning modules Click to go to School Site. She has been involved in independent evaluations of practitioner’s experiences of the virtual Practice Development College.

John Smith, Research Assistant

John is a full time Computing Research Assistant working within the virtual Practice Development College. His role is to oversee, administer and further develop all of the technologies which are used to deliver the e.learning content to the link nurses. Through the use of graphical interfaces and audio visual material, he introduces exciting new ways of presenting content. He also administers the public website (geronurse.com) and keeps it up-to-date with appropriate information about the project.

He provides training and support for nurses and the project team as they use the virtual college or public website.
