Gerontological Nursing: A way forward!!

Practice Development Agenda

Practice development is a term often used by nurses when referring to the complex processes involved in improving care. The agenda refers to the planned aspects of care to be improved. Focus group interviews completed with senior nurses as part of the preparation for the Demonstration Project found the development agenda for nursing older people in Scotland vague. Following consultation with stakeholders the Steering Group agreed the project specific development agenda.

The long term Demonstration Project practice development agenda is to promote evidence based gerontological nursing practice. Short and medium term goals focus on the promotion of the agreed value base for practice and the development, implementation and dissemination of Best Practice Statements. The development and sharing of best practice is integral to The Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery in Scotland (SEHD 2001).
